ILORIN – The Labour Party (LP) said it has adopted Dr Mike Omotosho as the governorship candidate of the party in Kwara State for the February 28 election.
Mr Mumini Onagun, the State Secretary of LP, disclosed this to newsmen  in Ilorin the state capital.
He said that LP decided to adopt Omotosho as its candidate based on his antecedents and humanitarian programmes which were in consonance with LP manifesto.
According to the secretary, the adoption of Omotosho is in line with the Electoral Act 2010, as amended.
He explained that the party dropped Mr Abdulhakeem Amao, who was earlier parading himself as the party’s governorship candidate, due to his failure to pay the nomination fee.
Onagun said the failure of Amao to meet the party and INEC conditions informed the decision by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to field Omotosho as flag bearer pending a credible replacement.
He said that dropping Amao, as the governorship candidate, would not affect the fortunes of the party.
Onagun said that the party had set up a reconciliation committee to bring back aggrieved members to the fold.
Mike Omotosho was an aspirant for House of Representatives for Isin/Ekiti/Oke Ero/Irepodun Federal Constituency of Kwara.
