BENIN CITY – The former Director, Army Public Relations, Abuja Brigadier General Olajide Laleye has formally assumed office as Commander, 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army.
He took over from Brigadier General Okwudili Azinta who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna at a brief ceremony at the Brigade Headquarters in Benin City.
The ceremony featured Laleye’s decoration with the insignia of office.
Lolaye declared that, conscious of the auspicious time he was taking over the helm of office at the Brigade, the Army would continue to be apolitical in the provision of security for all law abiding citizens, irrespective of party affiliation.
On his part, Brigadier General Azinta in his post handing over address encouraged men and officers of the Brigade to put national interest above self.
He urged them to be of good conduct during and after next month’s general elections by providing a level playing ground for all persons in a manner that the army command would be proud.
According to him when the Army sends you on a task it sends you, believing you will come back alive and without injuries.
He urged them to analyse tasks given to them and put in place an operational frame-work that would enable them do their task without injury, saying “this is what the Army and their individual families expect”.
Calling on them to extend the hands of fellowship, dedication, sincerity and maximal co-operation to the new commander, Brig-General Azinta urged them to shun all forms of illegality.
