ABUJA – Alhaji Shehu Nafuntua, a chieftain of the APC in Niger State, yesterday said that Governor Babangida Aliyu has failed to redeem his electoral promises to the people of the state.
Nafuntua said in a statement in Abuja that the PDP had squandered about 16 years of its rule in the state and that the APC was ready to deliver the state from the woods.
The politician was reacting to the governor’s claim that he had fulfilled his campaign pledges to the people while inaugurating the Gulu Comprehensive Health Centre in Lapai local government area of the state recently.
He described the governor as a “roadside politician who came with no vision for the development of our state, made no promise and is leaving without uplifting the lives of the people’’.
Nafuntua, however, assured Nigerlites that the APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, would deliver them from the quagmire, if elected.
According to him, Bello and the APC have a comprehensive blueprint for the development of the state and the country at large.
He said that Bello promised to provide functional and quality social amenities and infrastructure aimed at improving the lives of the people within the first two years of the APC administration in the state.
Calling for a regime change in the state, Nafuntua said: “We (APC and Bello) will provide security, introduce social welfare scheme, create jobs as well as deliver social amenities and infrastructure to the electorate.’’
Reacting to the allegation of non-performance, Alhaji Tanko Dada, the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Public Affairs, dismissed it as the ranting of failed politicians.
Dada said that Aliyu promised and delivered legion of social amenities and infrastructure across the state.
“His Excellency entered into a covenant with our people during his administration to deliver democracy dividends and there is no gainsaying the fact that the governor is redeeming campaign promises,’’ he said.
According to him, the electorate would attest to the development strides and empowerment programmes recorded by this administration in about eight years.
The spokesman, therefore, advised the electorate to remain steadfast with the PDP to sustain the development drive in the state.
