ABUJA – The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said it had concluded plans to ensure adequate security before, during and after the February general elections.
Commandant-General of the corps, Dr Ade Abolurin, gave the assurance at a security workshop organised by the corps in preparation for the elections.
Abolurin, who was represented by the Deputy Commandant-General (DCG), Administration of the corps, Mr Bello Suleiman, said the agency was collaborating with relevant stakeholders and security agencies to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as a major stakeholder would be collaborating with other relevant agencies responsible for the conduct of electioneering process,
“We have put in place robust security measures to ensure adequate security before, during and after the elections,’’ he said.
He said that apart from the security measures, the corps had also been at the fore front of peace advocacy and sensitisation of Nigerians and political actors on the need for violent-free elections.
The NSCDC boss said that in continuation of its peace advocacy and sensitisation of Nigerians, the corps had organised town hall meetings in the six-geo-political zones of the country from January 21 to February . 5.
He said the meetings would bring together religious leaders, traditional leaders, road transport workers, youths organisations, media and security agencies in a bid to evolve a peaceful template for the elections.
Abolurin called on Nigerians to eschew violence and support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security agencies to ensure peaceful and credible elections.
