Lagos – Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State says the ongoing political campaigns are impacting positively on Nigerians and the nation’s domestic economy.
Fashola spoke in Lagos at a news conference as Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee for the Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation.
The governor, however, declined to project on the level of economic growth so far recorded.
According to him, the level of impact of the political campaigns on both the formal and informal sectors of the nation’s economy is visible to discerning observers.
Fashola indentified the beneficiaries as the media, printing industry, internet providers and textile industry.
Others, he said, include the nation’s hospitality industry, transport and artisans.
Fashola, classifying the economic boost as seasonal, said that an APC government would further grow the economy.
He said the party’s collaboration with five banks on the campaign fund accounts was purely on commercial basis, adding that whatever comes to the party would be net of transaction costs.
Fashola said First Bank, Zenith Bank, GTBank, and EcoBank had entered into commercial agreement to produce dedicated tellers for the campaign funds.
He also said that the party decided to use the banks and other electronic platforms to give Nigerians the opportunity to be part of the political initiative.
The governor further said that the committee had no fixed target, adding that “ it will only operate within the ambit of the electoral law.’’
