BENIN CITY – One of the policemen attached to a Benin-based businessman” Elder Tes Sorae (aka Tomline) has been shot dead by armed men who attacked his wife in the State Capital.
The attack came few years after gunmen killed his (Sorae) eldest wife, two security details and wounded a little girl in an operation in which Elder Tes Sorae was abducted.
Our crime reporter recalled that the kidnap operation occurred about noon on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the gate of Elder Tes Sorae’s private residence on Textile Mill Road, Benin City.
His abductors however released him after several days of pensive negotiation, amid mourning of his slain wife.
The latest incident occurred at a Filling station after Oguola Street junction, along Siluko Road, Benin City, last Wednesday.
It was learnt that the slain policeman identified as SGT. Emmanuel Felix was providing security for one of the wives of Elder Sorae when the armed men struck, killed him and snatched his service rifle before robbing Mrs. Tes Sorae of cash and valuable.
It was further gathered that the cell phone of the woman was later found inside the operational car of the armed men later recovered by men of Oba Market Police Division in Benin City.
Elder Tes Sorae declined comment when journalists sought his response at his private residence, Textile Mill Road, Benin City.
Contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Edo State Police Command, DSP Joseph Edogiawerie stated that when the robbers sighted the mobile policeman in uniform, they opened fire on him.
DSP Edogiawerie further confirmed that the police sergeant was with the wife of Elder Tes Sorae who was thereafter   robbed of undisclosed amount of money and other valuable.
He was not however certain whether the stolen rifle has been recovered.
