BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has appealed to indigenes of the state to be security-conscious at all times by reporting suspicious movements to the police and other security agencies.
The governor made the remark at this year’s launching of Armed Forces Day Remembrance Emblem Appeal Fund in Benin City.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole whose address was read by the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu appreciated the services of the ex-servicemen who paid the supreme price to ensure that peace and stability reign in Nigeria and other countries of the world.
He saluted the courage of the men and women of the armed forces for the various roles they played to ensure the sustenance of democratic governance in the country, in spite of the current challenges of terrorism in some parts of Nigeria.
According to him, the time has come for stakeholders and key players in the Nigerian project to join hands with government to promote the welfare of the legion of ex-servicemen and the dependants left behind by those who paid the supreme price and to ease their burden financially and psychologically.
Representative of Oredo Council Chairman Hon. Osaro Obazee noted in his goodwill message that the Armed Forces Remembrance week creates the opportunity to reflect on the condition of the ex-servicemen and their dependants, as those who contributed to the unity of the country.
State Chairman, Nigeria Legion Mr. Osawaru Awanbor thanked the state government for the monthly subvention given to the legion by the government.
Highlight of the ceremony was the decoration of the governor, the deputy governor and other personalities at the occasion.
