CARLES Rexach has described Barcelona’s transfer ban as “the biggest nonsense in years” and feels the club have not done anything wrong.
The Catalans were banned from signing new players for two transfer windows after they were found guilty of breaching Fifa’s rules on the transfer of players aged under 18.
Nevertheless, Rexach, who recently returned to Barcelona as part of the club’s new technical committee, struggles to understand the reasoning behind the decision of football’s world governing body.
“If you analyse it coldly and without going into the legal details, it’s the biggest nonsense that I’ve seen in years,” Rexach was quoted as saying by EFE.
“People who know La Masía know how well the kids are looked after, how much they are made to study and any father would be delighted for his son to be there.
“They’ve come out with this new rule and we’re in a tough moment, but some things I don’t understand.”
Barcelona served the first part of their ban in January and will not be allowed to sign any new players ahead of the 2015-16 campaign either, with the January 2016 transfer window as their first opportunity to bring in fresh blood from outside their own ranks.
