Lagos – A power bike rider in Lagos ignorantly lost his life when he tried to out beat a moving train coming from Ijoko in Ogun State to Ebute Metta in Lagos last Thursday morning at Fagba level crossing in Iju Ishaga, Lagos State.
The deceased identified as Yakubu Samuel was learnt to be a shift leader of a security outfit and attached to CLAM Church in Omole area of Lagos.
According to eye witness, Samuel, who was riding the power bike marked BDG 601QC was said to be coming from Abule Egba and ignored the Nigeria Railway Corporation traffic control officer who stopped all vehicles to pave way for the train to pass.
It was gathered that, rather than Samuel to exercise patience and allowed the moving fast train to pass, he tried to cross the level crossing and thereby ran into the train that crushed him to death on the spot.
“It has become the habit of many motorcycle riders, especially the commercial riders not to comply with the directive of the railway officer, by trying to force their way to cross without minding the implication. Instead of Samuel to wait for the train to pass he was in a hurry. Now he has lost his life”, eye witness said.
Sympathisers at the scene used his mobile phone to call one of his brothers who said he was working at Apapa and he was told that his brother had an accident and needed urgent assistance.
Policemen from Abattoir and Oko Oba divisions arrived the scene after the accident to control the large crowd that had gathered.
