BENIN CITY – Men of Edo Police Command have commenced the mopping up of arms and ammunition illegally acquired by some politicians for the purpose of unleashing terror on members of opposition party should they lose in the forthcoming general elections in the state.
The outgoing Commissioner of Police, Edo Mr. Foluso Adebanjo disclosed this to our Crime Reporter in his office, weekend.
Though he did not reveal the types and quantity of the arms and ammunition so far retrieved from politicians, he however, noted that the command is making progress in the war against unlawful possession of firearms.
“We are getting them one after the other, since they did not submit them to us, we are meeting them.” The Compol stated
Mr. Adebanjo further maintained that the police in Edo are collaborating with other security agencies towards ensuring security of lives and property before, during and after the general polls.
He called on members of the public to volunteer information that would assist the police in their duty.
It would be recalled that the Edo Police Command had few months ago raised the alarm that intelligent reports indicated that some politicians are pilling up arms and ammunition for the purpose of unleashing terror on members of the opposition party should they lose in the coming polls.
He warned such politicians to desist from the act and surrender such illegally acquired arms and ammunition to police or be prepared to face the wrath of the law.
