WARRI – Ahead of the next general elections, Commander  NNS Delta, Captain Musa Gemu , has re-assured Deltans of adequate security before, during and after the elections both on land and in the riverine communities in Delta State .
Gemu made this known in a chat with journalists in Warri.
According to the commander, there is synergy among all security agencies in the   state, saying they meet regularly to map out proactive plans in order to take care of any emergency.
The Naval boss said the Navy on their part ensured that there is constant patrol of the water ways while other security agencies maintain law and order on land.
Gemu however called on politicians not to overheat the polity by making inciting utterances against their opponents, urging them to concentrate rather on how to convince the electorates in order to get their votes.
Also speaking with journalists, the out going Warri Area Commander, ACP Rabiu Hussaini expressed optimism that the elections are going to be without violence, as according to him, all Nigerians both Christians and Muslims are praying  fervently for the success of the polls.
Hussaini said the Inspector General of police has mandated all Commissioners of police across the nation to ensure that the elections are violent free.
He said snatching of ballot boxes is now old fashioned as Nigeria are now more enlightened regarding elections.
While calling on traditional rulers to prevail on their subjects to go out and cast their votes in orderly manner, he said traditional rulers play a vital role in the society by virtue of their closeness to the grassroots.
The police boss who is on transfer to Kaduna State, while making reference to the last Christmas and New year celebrations in the Warri Area Command   said he was delighted that he was leaving behind a peaceful Warri and environs.
The Warri South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Mofe Edema, on his part, said that they are prepared for elections and therefore called on Deltans, particularly youths to shun violence.
He urged the youths to disregard politicians that would want to use them to foment trouble.
“If any politician wants to use you for violence, tell him to   put his family in front first; do not allow them to use you when their children are kept in safe haven.
