IBILO (AKOKO-EDO) – Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State said it is a shame that the Federal Government led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) budgeted almost a billion naira for the purchase of diesel and Petrol to fuel generators in the Presidential Villa, saying it shows the PDP-led government has given up and has no clue on how to fix the problem in the power sector.
The governor said the fact that the Federal Government has to use power generators at the nation’s seat of power indicated that the common man has no hope of getting uninterrupted power supply from the power distribution companies in the country and should therefore punish the inefficiency of the PDP-led federal government by voting them out in the February 14 general election.
Speaking yesterday at the campaign rallies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Ibillo in Akoko Edo Local Government and Otuo in Owan East Local Government Area of the state, Oshiomhole said “when PDP took over power in 1999, they promised to fix the power challenges of Nigeria in six months. Now it is 16 years, yet we have no light. In the Presidential Villa in Abuja, one billion naira was budgeted for the purchase of diesel. So it is obvious that the PDP government cannot give us power. With PDP there is no hope.
“All we can do for you is to buy transformers and extend cables but whether you get light or not is not in the hand of the state government. It is in the hands of PDP-led Federal Government. Even in Government House, there is no light. Even Edo, Delta and Ondo electricity have been sold to private individuals. It is these private individuals that bring bills for light not provided”.
Oshiomhole continued, “the issue of darkness is everywhere in the country. For 16 years now, they have not been able to fix light. Nobody can solve it unless it is addressed from the federal level. Government is not supposed to send people to collect money from you when they didn’t give you light but that is the situation today.
“The solution is to change the head so the entire body can become whole. That is why this year, we are calling for change. Change from darkness to light because if we don’t make the change now, we will remain in darkness for the next four years.
“As long as we don’t have light, we can’t get jobs because you can’t create jobs when there is no power. Take a critical look at it; a woman decides to open a salon shop which is supposed to be a small scale business, but today, after buying the necessary equipment, you must get a generator, purchase diesel to run it and provide money for maintenance cost”.
Governor Oshiomhole said the PDP Federal Government has failed to deliver on its promises to the nation after being saddled with the responsibility to make a difference in the nation in the past one decade and therefore do not deserve to remain in power beyond this election year.
Oshiomhole said, “Our children are jobless. How can they get jobs when there is no power? If Nigeria must make progress, we must have light. This is non-negotiable.
“For me, it is not about party, it is about truth. In 1999, the price of kerosene was N16, diesel was sold for N18 and petrol price was N20. Today, kerosene is N150 yet in their books, they say kerosene is sold for N50. That is what subsidy is all about. They have stolen over N1 trillion in the name of subsidizing your kerosene for N50. When you pay N150, they say you pay N50. So PDP defrauds even the poorest in our society
“We have to chase them out because they are living on the blood of poor people. They don’t have mercy for the unemployed. They don’t have mercy for the rural women or the elderly. With our PVC, come February 14th, we will vote them out and replaced them so that there will be light, kerosene and employment.
