ABUJA – The Federal Government said it was set to enforce standard and safety control in production and installation of meters and other electrical equipment in the power sector.
This is contained in statement signed by Mr Olawale Rasheed, Senior Assistant to the Minister of State for Power on Media.
The statement quoted the Minister of state for Power, Alhaji Mohammed Wakil, as saying that the Federal Government was set to enforce quality control and standard of electricity installation.
It said that with the successful reform of generation, transmission and distribution sub-sectors, the administration is now focusing on delivery of safe and reliable electricity supply to Nigerians.
“We have resolved to enhance consumers and investors’ confidence and satisfaction through sustained inspection, testing and certification of electrical materials and equipment,” it said.
The statement said that all categories of electrical installations, power systems and networks must be properly planned, designed and executed before use.
It said that gone are the days of sub-standard equipment and installation which compromised safety of Nigerians.
According to the statement, days of manufacturers of fake power equipment were numbered.
“The long arm of the law shall catch up with those endangering lives of innocent citizens.
“Nigerians not only want adequate power supply but also safety and reliability,” it said.
