ABUJA – The House of Representatives in Abuja applauded President Goodluck Jonathan for his support to the Nigerian Army which enabled it to re-take captured territories from insurgents in the country.
The commendation came following the adoption of a motion on urgent national importance, moved by Rep. Muhammad Monguno (APC-Borno).
The house, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rep Emeka Ihedioha, also praised the military for its bravery and steadfastness.
The territories in some parts of the North East, particularly Borno, had fallen under the control of the insurgents, Boko Haram.
Monguno said that in previous months, Boko Haram nearly over-ran the state “but today, the tide is turning against the insurgents as a result of the gallantry of the soldiers“.
He said prior to the army’s new offensive, the group had subdued some communities, hoisted their flags and subjected the people to despicable norms.
“Almost all the local government areas taken by Boko Haram have now been liberated.
“So, the armed forces require some encouragement from us in the parliament,” Monguno said.
