Kaduna- Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State has pledged to raise the salary of district heads in the state to enhance their performance.
It was learnt that the monthly salary of a district head is about N14, 000 which is below the national minimum wage.
Yero made the pledge when he paid a courtesy visit on the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubairu Jubril, in continuation of his election campaign ahead of the 2015 election.
He said that as important pillars of leadership at the community level, the district heads deserved to have a living wage that would encourage them in their work.
The governor acknowledged the security problems the area was facing and assured that government would continue to protect the lives and properties of all people living in the state.
Reports state that Birnin Gwari Local Government Area has for years contended with attacks by criminal gangs, which has led to daily loss of lives and properties.
Yero assured the residents that the security situation would be better in the coming years if he was elected as governor in the February 28 election.
He thanked the Emirate Council for its invaluable support to the administration, and urged it to sensitise the people on the need for peaceful elections.
The governor reminded the people that leadership came from God, as such they should embrace whoever emerged victorious in the elections.
Responding on behalf of the Emir, the Galadiman Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar appealed to the governor to deploy more security personnel to the area in view of security threats faced by residents.
Abubakar said the greatest challenge facing the area was that of security, which required more innovative intervention to contain.
He pledged support to the administration, and said that the emirate council would continue to mobilise the people to be peaceful throughout the period of the election.
Reports state that presently the Emir is out of the country for medical treatment.
