Following their loss in the semi-finals of the 2015 CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament, hosts Equatorial Guinea will hope to finish as number three when they clash against fellow semifinal losers, DR Congo.
The match is set to get underway at Estadio de Malabo today evening and their target would be to erase the 3-0 loss at the hands of the Black Stars of Ghana in the semis.
However, the National Thunder will have to look back at their progress in the tournament with pride having qualified to reach the knockout stages of this prestigious continental showpiece.
Led by Esteban Becker, the hosts managed to reach their highest finish in the 30th edition (semis) after reaching the quarter-finals in 2012.
During the group stages, Nzalang Nacional finished as number two in Group A behind Congo with five points from three matches, in their first knockout match against Tunisia, they won 2-1 after extra time amidst controversy where they were awarded a dubious penalty.
Looking at this clash against the Leopards, they have to do everything in their power to claim the bronze medal and by adding woes to the Congolese camp.
The match is set to be a battle of top African goalkeepers between Robert Kidiaba and Felipe Ovono where they are expected to be key for their teams once more.
The hosts have not really accepted the defeat against Avram Grant’s men – after they threw missiles into the pitch – a disappointment they’ll have to overcome before switching focus on finishing third.
The match gets underway at 6pm and the venue is Estadio de Malabo.
