DOUBLE Olympic champion Mo Farah laid into 5,000m and 10,000m rival Andy Vernon in an astonishing Twitter exchange between the British duo.
Vernon recently criticised the lack of competition Farah will face in the upcoming Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix, which will be the Somalia-born runner’s seasonal debut.
Vernon took to Twitter to express his disappointment in the field, saying: “nother stellar field against Mo Farah on home turf this weekend at Birmingham. #joke,”
Incensed, Farah responded, sarcastically pointing out that Vernon would not be lining up alongside him.
The 29-year-old Vernon hit back, saying: “Lol Mo Farah I think even you can work out that I can make the cut to the Indoor Grand Prix. Lets hope no one loses their shoe…”
And with each remark, the exchange intensified with Farah responding: “I wish you did make the cut mate so I can leave you in my dust like ALWAYS!! hahahaha #hatersgonnahate”
Neither athlete seemed willing to let his rival have the last word, and with more than an hour gone, Vernon tweeted: “1) stop quoting Taylor Swift. 2) I don’t hate you Mo. I would just rather watch a race than the the Mo Show. #playersgonnaplay.”
It was then that Farah’s ruthless nature showed, ending the exchange with a brutal final remark.
He said: “that’s why they didn’t put you in the race mate.. Cos you’re an embarrassment!! Taylor Swift can probably run faster than you!”
