SCHALKE boss Roberto Di Matteo has called on his side to believe they can overturn the first leg deficit from their tie with Real Madrid.
Madrid claimed a 2-0 win in Germany to take the advantage back to Santiago Bernabeu but Di Matteo told reporters his players have to go to the Spanish capital with confidence.
“The second leg at the Bernabeu will be difficult but we have to believe and we’ll try,” the former Chelsea boss said, AS reports.
“I was pleased with how the team played. If the shot that hit the bar goes in, the outcome could have been different.
“Madrid have had three chances and scored two goals. The difference was the quality. They scored and we didn’t.
“Who knows how the game could have finished if [the shot that hit the bar goes in]. Their attacking quality made the difference in an even game.
“If you give too much space to a team like Madrid they will create a lot of danger. But we travel to Madrid hoping to do something.
“We need two goals to go into extra time. Let’s see if we can do it.”
