BENIN CITY – A young man, Osaghae Odion Desmond alleged to be a homosexual has fled his home after him and his sex partner were allegedly caught making love during the burial ceremony of his late father, Pa Samuel Osaghae on the 6th to 8th of February, 2015.
Narrating the incident to newsmen, a witness who claimed to be a friend, Ogie Osazuwa, said “it was a very surprising, to see his friend involved in such a disgusting and abominable act , though his dressing style was strange, I never suspected him, I thought he dresses like that because of his music and dancing passion. Never did I know, he also uses that as an avenue to participate in homosexual activities. We strongly disagree with his sexual taste, he was beaten and seriously battered”.
However, his partner (name withheld) fled the scene immediately after they were caught. Odion was taken to his father’s corpse for exorcism and after much debate about what to do with him and several appeals from some of the family members who want the gay to be taken to the police.
“I hoped and prayed for best for friend to get rid of his homosexuality, when he was locked up in the room after bluntly refusing to swear”.
Osaghae Odion Desmond, who spoke to his friend on phone, after he managed to escape from home, said that he was hiding in an undisclosed location and not ready to come back home because he is not ready to swear or go to jail. And moreover, his uncle, who his the head of the family has warned of threats from people to kill him over his sexual acts with their relative if he is caught, because they will never accept such an abomination in their family. “A dead son is better than an homosexual son” the uncle stated. Since his last call days ago, our source says he has not heard from his friend, but hopes for the best for him and wish he changes.
Homosexuality,bisexuality, lesbianism and transgender rights remains illegal in Nigeria and is punishable by 14 years imprisonment.
