BENIN CITY – The State Government has set up a three-man Committee to carry out a market survey of items contained in the list submitted by Edo State Welders Association, to be purchased by the State Government for the empowerment of members of the Association.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Barr. MacDonald Obasuke who presided over the inaugural meeting between the Welders’ Association and top government functionaries, said the meeting was a follow up to the Governor Adams Oshiomhole directive last week that the Association. should liaise with the Ministry to purchase machinery that could aid the smooth operation of its members.
Commissioner Obasuke reiterated the determination of the State Government led by Governor Oshiomhole to empower the citizens of the State in all ramifications.
Barr. Obasuke explained that the Government will critically scrutinize the list of members of the State Welders’ Association to ensure that credible persons benefit accordingly.
The State President of the Association, Comrade Isaac Oguns, thanked the State Governor for the gesture and pledged the continued loyalty of the body to the Governor Oshiomhole’s led Government.
It will be recalled that last week, the State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole pledged the sum of fifty million naira (N50,000,000.00) for the Edo State Welders’ Association during a courtesy visit on the Governor.
Meanwhile, the State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Telecom Operators and Technicians Association of Nigeria (TOTAN), Edo State Branch.
The M.O.U has in part, the construction and supply of one hundred TOTAN shelters to members of the Association. The fund for the project is put at fifteen million naira (N15,000,000.00) and is expected to be drawn from Edo State Government and Bank of Industry Micro Credit Scheme.
A partner in the Memorandum of Understanding, TOTAN is expected to ensure that every TOTAN shelter constructed with the loan carry with it, pictures of the Governor of Edo State and the name “Bank of Industry”.
The fund will be disbursed through the Guarantor and Fund Manager of TOTAN, TrustFund Micro Finance Bank.

Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ms. Osayuware Idahosa, the
Director of Industry, Mr. Festus Okougbo and its finance counterpart, Mr.
Obayuwana Raphael.
