Nigeria captain Vincent Enyeama is out of the international friendly match with South Africa billed for Nelspruit on Sunday after he copped an injury during Thursday evening’s training session had at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo.
Enyeama got his record equaling 100th cap on Wednesday in the Super Eagles 1-0 home defeat to the Cranes of Uganda but the captain won’t be available to break the record he jointly holds with former skipper Joseph Yobo against the Bafana Bafana on Sunday.
Toyin Ibitoye, media officer of the national team said the former Enyimba goalkeeper had been replaced by Daniel Akpeyi and won’t be on the plane to South Africa.
“Enyeama will not be travelling with the team because he sustained a back injury and has been excused from the journey while Daniel Akpeyi of Warri Wolves will serve as his replacement. We don’t want him to aggravate his back complaints and it was among the reasons why he won’t be going to South Africa,” Ibitoye said.
Ibitoye noted that the Eagles would miss the invaluable experience of Enyeama but assured that Nigeria won’t be disgraced in Nelspruit on Sunday.
