Abudu – A Gay, George Osa has on January 29, 2014 reportedly committed suicide at his residence in Abudu, the administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, following intimidation, harassment, threats to life and assault arising from their involvement in gay practice with his alleged partner, Okunbor Iyobosa in the locality. That said partner had to escape for his life.
It would be recalled that the said gay partners had in February, 2013 indulged in the practice for quite some time, an act which was regarded as sacrilege to the land, thereby causing different ailment in the Community.
Speaking with Newsmen, an elder in the Community identified as Pa Johnson Ogieva said that when the acts of gay practice by the perpetrators were no longer palatable in the Community especially in view of its adverse effect on hindering the progress of the people, it called for concern as the Youths and elders who felt disenchanted with the behaviour started threatening to kill them to appease the gods.
He said that when the threats became tensed, the gay partners ran away to Benin City and unfortunately for them, the house they were, belonged to an indigene of Abudu who had got the wind of their evil practice and decided to chase them out when it became glaring that they would continue the practice and as such, they shamefully relocated to Abudu where they were called all sorts of uncomplimentary names, especially when they had initially reported the actions of the elders of Abudu to the Police who could not act expectedly because of the immoral nature of their misdeeds in the gay practice.
Pa Ogieva said that in concert with the negative trend which befell the gay partners, they became a subject of humiliation in the Community and to lay down all possible attacks that might be associated with their continued practice, George Osa reportedly killed himself in order to bring back his family reputation.
Pa Ogieva further stated that Okunbor Iyobosa was no longer comfortable with the development, having lost his partner, and to prevent him from initiating other boys in the Community into the illicit practice, some Youths, supported by the police/government, started trailing him to kill. On one of their moves, he narrowly escaped them. The elders and Youths of the Community have vowed that they will not relent in fishing him out to kill if seen, adding that his whereabout remains unknown as at the time of filing in this report.
