PORT HARCOURT- The Nigeria Police have reiterated its resolve to ensure free and fair general elections in 2015.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Maritime Command (AIG) Kalafite Adeyemi, who stated this yesterday, during her familiarization tour of Ports Authority Police, Eastern Ports Command, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, added that the Eastern Ports Command needs urgent attention.
She stated that Police personnel, particularly those in the Marine, were ready to provide adequate security on the waterways during the forthcoming general elections.
Adeyemi assured that the police had the capacity to provide security and contain whatever challenge that might confront them.
She said: “My men, especially the marine, are up and doing; they have been patrolling the waterways. And we have been lecturing our men to be of good behaviour. And I know they are going to perform well.
She emphasized: “We are out to do our jobs and to be on steady patrol of the waterways. We have the capacity to face whatever challenge that may confront us. That is why I am on this tour because the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abbah, asked me to go round and see how we can provide all those things before the time of election”.
The AIG Maritime Command charged the officers and men to be of good conduct during the forthcoming polls, insisting that they were bound to provide security for the election.
Adeyemi warned: “It is time to make sure that the men are well kitted and provided for logistically. Once again, I am here to encourage them and tell them to be of good behaviour, and to contribute their own quota to the success of the forthcoming. They must not be found wanting”.
