KEFFI (NASARAWA) – Senator Abdullahi Adamu (APC-Nasarawa West), re-elected on Saturday, has called on politicians to imbibe the habit of accepting election results in good faith to prevent post-election violence.
Adamu gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Kefi yesterday.
He said that leadership comes from God, adding that “it is God that gives power to who so ever He wishes.’’
Adamu called on politicians to accept the result of Saturday’s gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections in good faith in the interest of peace and national development.
“It is the role of elder statesmen or leadership to ensure peace, unity and to advise people to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
“No nation or society can develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion.
“The security challenge facing our state and some parts of the country had affected socio-economic development of the country negatively.
“We need to do everything humanly possible to achieve peace in the country’’, he said.
Adamu stressed that if politicians imbibe the habit of accepting the outcome of every election in good faith, the issue of post-election violence would be a thing of the past in the country.
He added that they should emulate President Goodluck Jonathan in conceding defeat and congratulating whoever emerged winner.
He commended INEC for the introduction of the card reader, adding that it had reduced electoral fraud in the elections conducted so far and called for its sustenance.
