BENIN CITY – The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2012 governorship election in Edo State and National Co-ordinator, Goodluck support Group, General Charles Airhiavbere with over 7,000 of his supporters yesterday decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).Speaking at the ceremony, Airhiavbere said, “You will agree with me that I was a candidate in the 2012 governorship election in Edo State and if you have been following my political activities, you will agree with me that there has been tension in the state and today APC is at the federal level and APC is also at the state level.
“It is only a fool that will want to remain in opposition. So, today, I am not decamping, but I am moving with my supporters to join the change train to bring faster development to Edo State as Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has been doing.
“So, with APC at the centre, and APC at the state, we will be able to join forces together to complete the Benin/Lokoja dualisation road and the Gelegele seaport with the support of APC at the federal level,” Airhiavbere said.
Continuing, he said it is good that the presidential election was held last week and PDP won in landslide victory in Edo South and Edo Central, but as we go to the polls on Saturday April 11, I assure Edo people that all APC candidates to Edo State House of Assembly, especially in Edo South will come out victorious.”
He pledge his unalloyed loyalty to the president elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) and called on all his supporters from various parts of Edo State to go out enmasse and vote in APC candidates on April 11, 2015.
In his remarks, the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said, “I feel great receiving the main opponent in the 2012 governorship election in the state.
“The presidential election has come and gone but with the coming of General Arhiavbere to our family, the APC, it’s going to be victory all the way to the House of Assembly”, according to him.
Oshiomhole added that, “with APC, the era of godfatherism has gone. In APC, the electorate are the leaders and like I have always said, the reason for being in government is to deliver good governance to the majority of the people within available resources”.
