BENIN CITY – The Independent National Electoral Commission has released some of the results of the Saturday’s Governorship elections held across the country.
Results so far released by INEC indicated that in Gombe, Muhammed Yahaya of APC polled 205,132, votes while his PDP counterpart, Ibrahim Dankwabo polled 285,369 votes; Emmanuel Udom of PDP polled 996,071 votes to defeat APC Umanah Umanah in Akwa Ibom; in Kaduna Mallan Nasir El-Rufai of APC polled 1,117,635 votes to defeat the PDP candidate who polled 310,805 votes.
In Oyo Abiola Aimobi of APC polled a total of 327,310 votes to defeat Rasheed Ladoja of Accord Party who polled 254,520 while APC Akinwumi Ambode polled a total of 811,994 to emerged winner in Lagos State. His closest rival Jimi Agbaje of PDP who has since congratulated Ambode polled 659,788 votes.
In the House of Assembly Election, APC won 33 seats and PDP 7 seats.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal of APC polled a total of 647,607 votes to emerge winner in Sokoto State,
Meanwhile, Half way into the collation of Adamawa Governorship election results, the candidate of the Peoles Democratic Party (PDP), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has conceded defeat.
Ribadu in a statement issued by his spokesman, Malam AbdulAziz Ahmad, said he had accepted the outcome of the election in good faith.
“I came into this race with lofty dreams and clear vision for our dear state, but the voice of the majority has not given me this chance. I take this in good faith.
“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the winner and pray that at the end of it all our dear state will witness the needed progress and development it so much desires”, Ribadu said.
Ribadu lauded the support he got from President Goodluck Jonathan, party leaders and the people of Adamawa in general.
Reports say that Ribadu concession statement was made shortly after the announcement of the result of 12 out of the 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The collation of the results for the remaining nine Local government areas, continue.
The state Returning Officer, Prof. Geoffrey Okogboo, Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Wukari, announced the results in Yola on Sunday.
Okogboo explained that the result was collected from the local government collation officers.
According to him, the APC candidate, Sen. Jibrilla Bindo, is leading in seven of the local government areas, including Yola South, Yola North, Maiha, Song, Girei, Mayo Belwa and Gombi with 206,576 votes.
The officer also disclosed that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Mr. Markus Gundiri, clinched 124,326 votes in five local government areas, including Lamurde, Michika, Madagali, Hong and Numan.
Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer, emerged third having polled 46,519 votes.
Okey Ezea of APC lost to PDP Ifeanyi Ugwanyi in Enugu State; APC Aminu Masari defeated Musa Nashiru of PDP in Katsina State while Ibikunle Amosun of APC defeated Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka in Ogun State.
The results announced so far have been accepted by representatives of the various political parties at the collation centre as none objected the outcome.
