ABUJA – The South-South Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Hilliard Etta, says the party will build institutions rather than individuals.
Etta said this in an interview with newsmen on the sideline of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja.
According to him, the party is coming to power to solidify and strengthen all institutions, especially security agencies.
“We are not coming into power to produce big men but big institutions.
“You are aware of the number of persons that have lost their lives in Rivers and Akwa Ibom all because they insisted on the right things to be done.
“The resolution of the NWC is just that the institutions of government do their work according to the law.
“We are not asking because we are the incoming government or that the institutions of government work in our favour.
“We are coming into power to strengthen, solidify and give concrete foundations to institutions in Nigeria, so we cannot begin to use them for our purpose or to our favour.’’
Etta urged the security agencies to discharge their duties as provided by law on April 11.
He called for the redeployment of all the Resident Electoral Commissioners to ensure credible elections.
“We are only asking that every agency of government involved in next Saturday’s elections should discharge their responsibility according to the law.
“Our government will not tolerate a situation where agencies of government are used for political ends by any political party.
“We are aware of the malfeasance committed by the RECs in Akwa Ibom, Rivers and generally in the South-South. We have asked the chairman of INEC to post them out of these states.
“We are still demanding these postings to be done. Let it be on record that the position of the party is that all agencies should work for Nigeria and work according to law not for any political party whether APC or PDP.”
