BENIN CITY – The ‘Oguedion’ of Ughoton community in Ovia North-East Local Government Area Edo State has been unsealed and re-opened for use on the order of the palace of the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Erediauwa one year after it was closed.
The ‘Oguedion’ was closed down on April 18, 2014 with a charge to the Odionwere, elders and people of Ughoton to continually maintain their loyalty to the sovereignty and authority of the Oba of Benin and as well avoid subversive acts and breaches that are inimical to the Benin customary laws.
Performing the re-opened exercise, palace chiefs, comprising Chief Ekhator-Obasogie, the Obobaifo N’Ewaise of Benin Kingdom and Chief Emovon Ogbemudia Aghamioba, the Aghamioba N’Ewaise of Benin Kingdom called on the people of Ughoton to desist from actions that necessitated the closure of their Oguedion.
The chiefs informed the people that the decision of the palace to re-opened the community’s Oguedion was anchored on their fervent show of restitution for breaches committed and their continuous pleas for forgiveness.
Before the symbolic re-opened and unsealing of the Oguedion, the Odionwere of Ughoton, Pa. Erhunomase Izevbigie who expressed joy over the decision of the palace of the Oba of Benin to re-opened and unseal their Oguedion had led other members of the community to express thanks to the Omo N’Oba for his magnanimity.
The Presiding Priest of the Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Ohen-Osa Harrison Okao and the Odionwere of Gelegele, Chief Amos Osakue were present to witness the re-opened ceremony.
