BENIN CITY – The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Chief Sir Oseni Elamah has formally received the draft curriculum proposal for the establishment of a training institute for the EIRS staff.
Presenting the proposal to the EIRS boss, the chairman of the Benin and District Society of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Mr. Dominic Eichie noted that the executive chairman had in June 2014 enjoined the CITN to partner with the EIRS in the area of developing a curriculum for the premium tax training school in the revenue agency, known as Sunday Okundia Training school.
Eichie stated that upon the realization of the proposal the CITN took into cognisance the categories of staff strength since the essence was to strengthen staff skills by building their internal capacity effectively.
He further stated that the proposal if implemented would meet the yearnings of tax practitioners as resource persons shall be drawn from staff of the EIRS who are to be complimented by some scholars in the CITN/ICAN.
The CITN BOSS noted that the EIRS tax training school was named after the late former Board’ Secretary of the agency, Sunday Okundia in view of his appreciation, doggedness and positive contribution towards the developmental growth of Edo State.
Highlighted some of its objectives to include, the promotion of the study of taxation globally, enhancing the knowledge of staff in the course of discharging tax responsibilities as well as boost the productivity of the internal revenue services amongst others.
The Executive Chairman, EIRS, Chief (Sir) Oseni Elamah, described the proposal as a laudable one, saying it has added another pillar to the tax reforms so far carried out by EIRS in the process of optimising potentials aimed at generating resources for the state government to being about social infrastructural development in the state.
Chief Elamah advised the visitors to collaborate with the Nigeria Barr. Association (NBA) with a view to defining the position of the law in the taxation system for adequate interpretation.
He encourage staff of EIRS to always attend meeting/workshops orgsnised by the chartered CITN as he commended the team for the draft proposal.
