ELECTORAL VIOLENCE, POLICE DECLARE ONE IJELI KENNEDY AND OTHERS WANTED IN BENIN
BENIN CITY: Following the violence that rocked Oregbeni in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State during the Presidential Election on 28th March 2015, the Police has declared one (IJELI KENNEDY) and others wanted.
The Election Day violence which spilled over to the next day resulting in the destruction and burning down of shops in the locality had caused severe panic among residents before the Police moved in to calm the situation.
Investigation by The Nigerian Observer revealed that the fracas was allegedly ignited by one Chief Obaseki Edomwonyi of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Chieftain when he brought in some fierce looking thugs which attempted to seize voting materials.
This move it was learnt was resisted by youths from the community led by Ijeli Kennedy thereby resulting in the violence and indiscriminate shooting by the Chief Obaseki thugs of four persons including a polling clerk.
But the Police claimed in a statement signed by Moses Nkombe (ASP) PPRO Edo State Command that Kennedy and other youths are wanted for the alleged involvement in the fracas that disrupted the presidential election in Oregbeni Ward 2 in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.
However, a source hinted that Kennedy, the youth leader of Oregbeni Community has escaped from the area following repeated threats and attempts on his life and those of his family members by hireling of Chief Obaseki who had alleged mastermind attack on his business interest including his shop which was burnt down in the wake of the violence.
