BENIN CITY – Workers of Happiness Foam Industries in Upper Mission Road, Benin City are counting their losses as properties worth millions of naira were Lost to fire that engulfed the factory recently.
The fire that began at about 10pm threw the workers and neighbours in the environs into panic as all effort to quench the inferno yielded no result.
The arrival of men of Edo state Fire Service however prevented the fire from causing more damage.
Although management and staff of the company declined interview, a worker who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that there was no electricity supply when the fire began.
He added that already produced goods and production equipment in the main factory were razed by the inferno.
In a similar vein, Ogbe-Ijaw market in Warri, Delta State is now a shadow of itself as goods worth several millions of naira were reduced to rubles by fire that engulfed the market .
The devastated traders of the market who lamented their ordeal said they lost all their goods to the inferno.
Some of them accused the security men assigned to guide the market whom they said they pay regularly for not leaving up to their billings as fire disaster in the market has become a yearly re-occurrence.
They appealed to the state government to come to their aid.
It was gathered that Delta State government has set up a committee to investigate the continuous re-occurrence of fire disaster in the popular Ogbe-Ijaw market.
