Lafia, –  Accreditation of voters for the governorship/state house of assembly elections was peaceful and order in Lafia and Akwanga local government areas of Nasarawa State, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
NAN correspondent who covered the polls in the areas reports that there was significant improvement in the performance of the card readers.
Accreditation commenced as early as 8.45 a.m. in most of the polling units, while it took between 45 to 50 seconds for the card reader to capture a voter.
Aderibigbe Abeola-Micheal, Assistant Presiding Officer 1 for Makabarbarta 027 Polling Unit in Ciroma Ward, commended INEC for the improvement on the card reader.
According to him, “though the card reader is not capturing fingers of some voters, we filled forms for them and as you can see the process is going on conveniently”.
Umar Ghali-Aliyu, a voter in Kofar Shawura Polling Unit, described the process as peaceful and orderly.
He commended security agents for providing adequate security for voters and others at the polling units, adding that he was pleased with the conduct of eligible voters who came out early for accreditation.
“I came here as early as 8 a.m., I can authoritatively say that there has been no case of violence in this polling unit,” he said.
Another voter at Low Cost 029 Polling Unit, an aged woman, Mrs Elizabeth Alamba, said Lafia and its environs which was perceived to be a violent area, turned out to be the most peaceful, “thank God for His mercy on us.”
She, however, appealed to the youths to maintain the existing peace being enjoyed in the state for some time now.
NAN reports that accreditation commenced on time in most of the polling units visited, while there was presence of security agents around the areas to enforce restriction of movement.(NAN)
