BENIN CITY – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday presented “Certificate of Return” to candidates of political parties in Edo State who were elected in both Houses of the National Assembly at a brief ceremony in the State Headquarters of the commission in Benin City.
The National officer of the Commission in charge of the zone, Dr. Ismeal Igbani who presented the certificates, said the exercise was in line with the Electoral Act.
Dr. Igbani urged the elected candidates to demonstrate the confidence reposed on them by the electoral who elected them as their representatives at the National Assembly.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner and top INEC officers at the ceremony also urged the people complement the unity of the country through their legislative activism.
Only five elected candidates were present at the ceremony to collect their certificates.
The included Pharmacist Matthew Urhoghide (Edo South)   and Engr. Clifford Ordia (Edo Central) for the House of Senate; Sergius Oguns (Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency) , Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Patrick Aisowieren Oredo and Orhionmwon / Uhunmwode Constituency respectively.
No reasons were however, adduced for the absence of other candidates who were not at the ceremony to collect their certificates.
The premises of the INEC was agog as supporters of the candidates could not hide expressed their feelings   in songs of jubilation.
