Lafia – The National Agency for Food, Drug, Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday said it would release operational guidelines for food and drug producers in Nasarawa state.
NAFDAC’s Coordinator in the state, Mr Micheal Attah, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia that the agency was poised to sanitise the entire system.
He said that part of the organisation’s strategic plans to ensure sanity in the state would include routine inspection in the 13 local government areas.
“Sensitisation among agro-chemical dealers on application and handling of agro chemicals on farm produce, is to avoid pesticides,” he said.
Others include enlightenment campaign for master bakers, supermarket operators, restaurants and hotels, pharmacy stores, as well as water producers and others.
“Getting NAFDAC registration number is not just for fun, there are some requirements.
“There are some procedures and some things that they agreed they are going to adhere to, before NAFDAC finally gives them their numbers,” Attah said.
He urged producers and dealers to control their products to ensure that they adhered strictly to the rules guiding their activities, to ensure the safety of all and sundry in the country.
The NAFDAC official advised the public to ensure that they buy goods with NAFDAC registration numbers, and to avoid the patronage of street drug hawkers, for their safety.
