KOKO (DELTA)- Arising from the insurgencies, security upsurge and threats in some parts of the country, Nigerians have been urged to maintain cordial civilian-military relations and support the activities of security agencies in their host communities by providing precise information and intelligence reports that could help to stem the tide and restore peace in the Nation as well as contributing to the welfare of security formations.
The call was made by the Brigadier General, O. Laleye, of 4 Brigade Command, Benin City on Monday at the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Army guard post at Ajagbadudu/Koko junction built by S. O. Solodems Nigeria and Ghana Limited and donated to the 19 Battalion, Nigerian Army in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Brig. Gen. Laleye, while accepting the security post, commended the cordial civil/ military relations enjoyed in the host communities and called on well-meaning individuals, groups and corporate bodies to contribute their quota in the development of their communities, saying that security personnel would perform maximally if they operate in a conducive environment.
While noting that there are many ways one could show interest and concerned about the security and welfare of security personnel and formation in his environment which include provision of information and intelligence to the security agencies, ensuring that there is civilian- military relationship between the host community and the formation located in environment and as well as providing facilities that would enable the officers and men to carry out their duties such as S.O Solodems has done.
He said ‘’what the community gets in return is service that is unparalleled because by the time soldiers are well rested and taken care of, you will be amazed as to how well they will perform their duties”, adding that the checkpoint has further cemented the existing relationship.
The CEO, Solodems Nigeria and Ghana Limited, Sapele, Chief Solomon Odemero Ojairefe Agbagi while presenting the security post, noted that security is everyone’s business, stressing that security issues should not be left to the government alone and appealed to other well -meaning Nigerians to rise to the challenge to play their role in ensuring the safety of lives and property in their communities.
Earlier, the Commanding Officer, 19 Battalion, Lt. Col. Aminu Umar commended Solodems Limited for taking up the task of building guard posts for security agencies in the state since 2010, adding that the military has made tremendous contribution in the attainment of peace and tranquility in the formation and sued for synergy between members of the public and the security agencies so as to enable them do the ultimate.
