A 42-year-old, Benjamin Egbe, was on Friday docked at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly being in possession of live cartridges and explosives during the April 11 governorship poll.
The accused, a member of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who resides at No. 1, Fadeyi St., Jibowu, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of attempt to commit felony and having in possession dangerous substances.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the accused with others still at large, committed the offences on April 11 at 1.10 p.m. at Kufo Walter Carrington Junction, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said the accused was found in possession of the dangerous weapons on the governorship and state assembly elections day.
“Live cartridges and explosives were found in the possession of the accused and he could not give a satisfactory account of how he came about them.’’
The offences contravened Sections 404 and 407 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The magistrate, Mr O.O. Olatunji, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till May 15 for mention.
