Lafia –  The police in Nasarawa State said on Sunday that they were investigating the cause of abandonment of a baby in a refuse dump site on Al-makura Street, Lafia.
DSP Ismaila Umar-Noman, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said that the police had immediately sent his men to the scene of the event for full investigation.
An eyewitness, Hajiya Hajara Musa-Tanko, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a new baby was found in the refuse dump site in the early hours of Sunday.
She said she was in her house at about 10p.m. on Saturday when she heard some movement in the refuse dump site.
She said further that she received a phone call from a “Good Samaritan’’ later to inform her that a new born baby-girl was found in the site.
“We went to the site and discovered that there was an abandoned new baby,’’ she said.
She appealed to security agents to investigate the incident and to bring perpetrators of such inhuman acts to book to serve as a deterrent to others.(NAN)
