Lagos – A 20-year-old man, Olanrewaju Salami, was sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for stealing a mobile phone.
Salami, who resides at No. 5, Bolade St., Oshodi, was convicted for robbing a pedestrian at a BRT park at Oshodi.
He pleaded guilty to the offence which the prosecutor, ASP Oyakhire Akintola, said contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Akintola had told the court during the proceedings that the convict, in company of a co-defendant, Taiwo Odunasi, 19, robbed one Mr Adedeji Falana of his Techno mobile phone.
Odunasi, who had earlier pleaded guilty, later changed his plea.
The prosecutor said Salami and his group attacked their victim on March 6 at 3.00 p.m. and snatched the phone valued at N4,000.
Akintola said Salami and Odunasi were apprehended following an alarm raised by some passersby.
“They were handed over to the police by some pedestrians, who overpowered them.”
Delivering her judgment, the Magistrate, Miss A.R. Onilogbo said: “Upon the facts before this court and confirmed reports, I hereby sentence you to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.”
Meanwhile, Onilogbo granted Odunasi bail in the sum of N5,000 with one surety in like sum, after she listened to an application presented by his counsel.
The case was adjourned to April 21 for hearing.
