I want to start by congratulating the people of Nigeria especially the electorate who all came out enmass to participate in the just concluded presidential/Senate and House of Representative/Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections across the country which has been adjudged by the international community as the freest election in Africa.
A lot of us were afraid that hell may be let loose in Nigeria due to the prediction and prophecy of doom which foresee the disintegration of the nation as a result of the 2015 general election where our politicians and their political parties over heat the polity creating tension and fear all over the political atmosphere.
Due to the tension, former United Nation Secretary Kofi Hanana and other concered leaders in Nigeria and Africa led all the political parties in the contest to sign peace accord to guarantee the nation peace before, during and after the election. The peace accord was signed twice, President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and major Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) of the All Progressive Congress (APC) led other political parties to make a commitment of peace and today we all are celebrating in peace.
Let me also thank President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who believe in the unity and a peaceful Nigeria. He is a man of his word, he said his ambition does not worth the blood of any Nigerian like wise other politician. He is been commended today for his sportsmanship and the godly act he displayed.
As incumbent President, it’s difficult to accept and concedes defeat but Jonathan crossed that huddles and congratulated his opponent even before the final result was made known by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by the fearless Prof. Attahiru Jega. That singular act of Mr. President stops any form of bloodshed. His accepting defeat foil the prophecy of the Western World and the enemies of this nation. Mr. President, you have made history for your braveness and courage to allow a free and fair election in the country. You acted maturely by calling the president elect Mohammadu Buhari before he was declared the winner of the presidential election. With this, you have saved Nigeria from bloodshed and earned Nigeria respect internationally.
Also, I want to congratulate the New president elect; General Mohamadu Buhari for not given up on Nigeria and for getting to the Promised Land even at the age of 73years. Please, you must work beyond your political party and appoint people with good leadership qualities and unquestionable character into your government. You should be careful at appointing those who decamped from other political parties into your cabinet.
What you should know at this time is that, those that decamped to APC few weeks before and after the presidential election are the same people that brought failure to President Goodluck Jonathan’s government. We believe as Nigerians that you are the change we need for our great country to move forward. We expect this change to transcend down the Aisle from Federal to the local government level. The failure of your government will be on you; you must work with a honest mind and deliver Nigeria from the hands of the evil men and women (Cabals) who don’t want Nigeria to move forward.
You are an elder state man and should extend your hand of fellowship to other good product in other political parties. We are not concerned about parties but focus on how you will deliver this nation from the hand of poverty. We may be the 6th largest producer of crude oil in the world but the level of poverty in the land is unbearable and your administration must do something about it as all the poor citizens of the nation look unto you as their Messiah and you can not afford to fail them now.
INEC led by Jega must also be commended in the whole process of peace in this country as he remain neutral throughout the process even when former Minister of Niger Delta tries to intimidate him and lit the fire of violence and destruction right from the collation centre with all manner of accusation against a well respected Jega, the INEC boss kept calm and manage the situation and finally continue with the process, the rest today is history.
Edo state should also celebrate from the victory as the state is no longer in opposition and the state house of assembly dominated by APC legislators. This means more development for the Edo people who over the years had continue to enjoy the dividend of democracy from the present administration led by our amiable comrade governor Adams Oshiomhole, who has fought in all front to ensure that APC win the presidential election. I want to congratulate the Edo State governor who is an agent of presidential change in the just concluded presidential election.
Oshiomhole has continually listen to his people as any government that has failed to listen to the yearning and aspirations of the people, needs to be changed. And the PDP today has become history as the people she fails to listen to has voted them out of office.
Talking about having a listening ear for the people, the leadership of IKpoba-Okha local government council, over the years has taken the people of the local governments-muteness for granted. Ikpoba-Okha remains the richest oil producing local government area in Edo State and is the most under developed local government area.
The governor of the state has done tremendously well in the area of human and infrastructural development making the state an envy of other states in the federation. If the local governments have followed suit the state would have moved forward than where it is today.
I am using Ikpoba-Okha as my focal point because I am an indigene of that locality. Since the creation of that local government, only one indigene of the local government has served as the council chairman in the person of Mr. Benson Efionayi but the rest of the chairmen, councillors and House of Assemblies Representative has majorly been non native of Ikpoba-Okha Local government.
As an Indigene of Oka in Ikpoba-Okha local government area, We know the truth about all the past and present local council members. Their leadership style has subjected our people to poor infrastructures, non creation of jobs, corruption and deceit.
Any political party that wants to win in Ikpoba-Okha must win Oka, the largest of the communities in the local government area. Our people have been deprived of good governance at the local government level in the areas of participation, rule of law, transparency, responsiveness, consensus orientation, equity and justice, effectiveness and efficiency, accountability and strategic.
In next year’s election, we will support the political party that will present indigene with its family root in Ikpoba-Okha. Ikpoba-Okha has great men and women who are well educated within and outside Nigeria. We need leadership change in Ikpoba-Okha in next year’s local government election just like Nigeria.
We need a true Indigene with family root in our local government and we need a change. This can only happen by producing indigene as candidates to represent the council area at the local, state and federal levels. God bless Ikpoba-Okha local government, God bless Edo state and God bless Nigeria.
