UROMI ( ESAN NORTH EAST)- Following her continuous refusal to ascend the throne of Ohen (Chief Priestess) of the popular Ohie Deity, the Elders and People of Ubierun Community in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State have declared the Ohen designate, one Courage Okosun (female) wanted.
Recall that there has been a vacuum for the position of Ohen in Ubierun Community following the death of Priestess Agboikha Madeline, the last occupant of the position over a year now.
It was gathered by our crime correspondent that trouble started following the completion of burial rites of Priestess Agboikha Madeline and the subsequently chosen of Courage Okosun as the next Chief Priestess especially as the decision is owing to the fact that her family was next in turn to produce the next Chief Priest.
The decision to choose Courage was further confirmed as the next Ohen of Ohie Deity was expected not to be a marriage woman, this according to multiple sources favoured her as the next in line of succession.
A source who pleaded not to be mentioned in print owing to security reasons said that “Courage Okosun rejected the position of Chief Priest of the Ohie Deity specifically because of her strong Christian faith and the need not to be isolated from the the people.
“Courage Okosun has in countless occasions escaped death by whiskers as the Community have vowed to coerced him to accept the Chief Priest offer or pay with his life.
“Following the expiration of the deadline given to her by the elders and people of Ubierun, the people became more violent about their resolved to forcing Okosun to accept the offer, a situation that may have informed her to run for his dear life especially as Courage was last seen on May 17, 2015”, the source disclosed.
He, however, appealed passionately to authorities who may known the whereabouts of Courage Okosun to have compassion on her by ensuring her safety, adding that Africa as a whole is no longer safe for her to dwell in.
Contacted for comment, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), DSP Okafor confirmed the report, maintaining that the command have commenced preliminary investigation into the matter.
He disclosed that no arrest have been made in connection with the disappearance of Courage.
