ALL Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) has advocated that the education sector be completely depoliticised to enhance unhindered curriculum implementation by stakeholders.
The call is contained in a communiqué read by Hajiya Abdulrahman, National President of association, in Abuja on Thursday, at the end of its 58th Annual National Congress.
The theme of the congress was “Good Community Relationship: a Tool for Effective Implementation of the new Curriculum’’.
It called for increased commitment on the part of government and the community to ensure that schools were adequately funded and staffed to actualise the dream for e-learning and self-employment for the students.
“Improved school community relationship will enhance the moral, social and cultural development of our secondary schools.
“Participation in curriculum development should be expanded to incorporate parents, School Based Management Committee, NGOs and artisans in addition to the representatives of government in order to enhance its successful implementation,’’ it quoted.
The communiqué also advocated that the government test-run new educational policies before full scale implementation in order to ensure their success.
It stated that good school community relationship would promote full understanding of the rationale behind each curriculum reform and ensure maximum support by all stakeholders.
The communiqué advocated for uniform compliance to the implementation of the 9-3-4 system of education by all states.
“The government should come out more boldly to make all and sundry know that education, with curriculum implementation inclusive can no longer be the sole responsibility of government,’’ it stated.
