Lagos – Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs Orelope Adefulire on Saturday said that the annual Lagos Carnival was meant to exhibit the rich cultural heritage and tourism potentials of the state.
Adefulire said in an interview with newsmen at the opening of the carnival, that the state was an embodiment of culture and tourism which needed to be presented to the world.
“The first storey building in Nigeria was built in Badagry, Lagos and the first Methodist Church was cited in Lagos.
“Lagos is uniquely surrounded by water and its aquatic splendor.
“It would also not be out of place to say that Lagos is the capital of the entertainment industry in Africa.
“These and many more make Lagos the destination that is worth the visit of any tourism or fun loving person,” she said.
The Deputy Governor expressed appreciation to the organisers, participants and visitors for making the event a soccess.
She also commended the media for popularising the carnival.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the carnival, which started in 2010, is aimed at celebrating the state’s ancestry and economic growth.
