ABUJA – Mr. Emeka Mba, the Director – General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), said funding is the major challenge militating against the successful digitization process of analogue televisions stations in Nigeria. Mba told newsmen in Abuja that a lot of technical planning had been done on the process.
He said that the commission was seriously working towards achieving that June 17 deadline switch over of broadcast stations in Nigeria.
Our biggest challenge around digitization has always been around funding becuawe we have done a lot of planning with the digital contact them.
“A lot of technical planning have been done and some of these things have to do with fund.
“It is no longer a question of intellect but a question of fund.”
Mba said that 78 percent of Nigerians were still using the analogue television and urged stakeholders in the broadcast industry to support the digitization process.
On her part, the Minister of Information, Mrs. Patricia Akwashiki, encouraged the management of NBC to diversify revenue generating sources of the commission.
Akwashiki said that it was important for agencies of government to intensify effort at generating revenue, instead of waiting for allocation from the Federal Government.
She underscored the Federal Government’s determination to ensure the digitization of broadcast stations in the country.
