BENIN CITY – The Commissioner representing Orhionmwon Local Government Area, on  the board of Edo State Oil and Gas producing Areas Development Commission, (EDSOGPADEC), Hon. Osaretin Edoma, has advised the members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) not to bastardize the progressive policies and programmes of the incoming General Muhammadu Buhari led federal government. He gave the warning in Benin City, weekend, while speaking with newsmen on what he termed spate of political recklessness that rocked the political parties and the democratic system in Nigeria.
Hon. Edoma, who, however appreciated that politics, is a game of members, also posited that the defectors should also realize that staying in one party could precipitate the establishment of a formidable opposition party to the ruling government.
Apparently irked by the influx of the PDP members into APC, immediately after the last general elections, Hon. Edoma described their sudden moves as not only ridiculous, but a grand design to scuttle the already established progressives interest which is not in the best interest of ideal democracy.
According to him, if everybody decides to dump one party for another, there could not have been a strong opposition like the APC, which made history recently by unseating the incumbent President.
The APC leader, however, described defectors as ‘political sycophants’ who are merely pursuing the cause of their personal aggrandizement at the detriment of the people and the party.
He advised the intending defectors from the PDP to have a rethink so as to deepen democracy.
Hon. Edoma therefore counselled the leadership of the ruling party, APC, on the need to be wary of political sycophants, who are out to destroy the image and aspirations of the party, saying that they would destroy it and go back to their former party.”
