ABUJA – Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, yesterday, left the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja for their home town Otuoke in Bayelsa State.
He took off on Nigerian Air Force Aircraft, flight 5N-FGW at about 12.03 pm in company of his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan , his Aide-De-Camp (ADC) Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe, his escort and some security personnel.
Some of those who bade him farewell at the Presidential wing of the airport were some members of his cabinet.
They were led by the former Vice-President, Arch. Namadi Sambo, Attorney General of the Federation Mohammed Adoke, the Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, FCT Minister Bala Mohammed and other members of his cabinet
Ex-President Jonathan left the Eagle Square, venue of the presidential oath taking ceremony at about 11.12a.m., shortly after President Mohammadu Buhari had taken his oath of office at about 10.47a.m.
Vice-President Yemi Asibanjo was first to take the oath of office before the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmoud Muhammed, at 10.37am.
Jonathan was instantly addressed as “former President” to the ecstasy of the audience after Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC), was sworn in as the President.
Former President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan was born 20 November 1957 had held sway as the President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015.
He re-contested and lost the recently concluded Presidential election, upon which he conceded defeat in the competitive election, the first sitting Nigerian president to do so.
Prior to his role as President, he served as Governor of Bayelsa Nigeria from 2005 to 2007 and as Vice-President, Nigeria from 2007 to 2010.

Yesterday marks a new beginning in Nigeria’s politics as the country successfully transits power from its erstwhile ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to its relentless opposition APC at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
Those who attended the ceremony included former president and heads of state of Nigeria, U.S Secretary of State Kerry arrives.
