ABUJA – The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has expressed happiness with the nation’s labour movement and assured it of adequate security during the 2015 Workers’ Day celebrations.Arase gave the assurance in a message to the workers ahead of the May Day scheduled for Friday.
He said adequate security arrangement had been made for a hitch-free celebration, adding that heads of police formations nationwide had been directed to deploy large human and material resources for the celebration.
The I-G advised the workers to be vigilant and report any security threats in their locality to the police and other law enforcement agencies promptly.
He described workers as “a dependable ally’’ in the efforts to provide security in the country and commended their role in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the just concluded general elections.
In Edo State, the Police Command said it has perfected arrangements to ensure adequate security during and after today’s Workers Day Celebration in the state.
The spokesman of Edo Police Command, DSP Stephen Onwochei stated this during an exclusive chat with The NIGERIAN OBSERVER, in Benin City.
DSP Onwochei disclosed that as part of the strategies to ensure a water-tight security for the celebration, all Area Commanders, Heads of Operational Departments and Divisional Police Officers (DSPs) have been directed to put their men on red alert.
He further disclosed that the preparation was part of the command’s proactiveness to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the celebration.
DSP Onwochei however advised trouble makers to stear clear of the venues and other places of celebration as plain clothes policemen have been dispatched to such places and other hotspots across the state.
