BENIN CITY – President Goodluck Jonathan said the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has remained a beacon of hope in the country’s mission for a United Nation.
He made the remark at Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2015 Batch “A” Corps members deployed to Edo State.
President Goodluck Jonathan whose message was presented by the State Deputy Governor (Dr) Pius Ebgeranmwen Odubu said the scheme has exposed millions of youths to the cultures and traditions of the society.
Dr. Odubu noted with commendation that corps members discharged their electoral duties with diligence, transparency and patriotism during the last general elections.
He called on the corps member to rededicate themselves with renewed vigour, conviction and commitment to the progress and development of the nation while urging them to position themselves as dependable agents of transformation and symbols of national integration and rapid socio-economic development.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports and Chairman NYSC Governing Board, Hon. Priestly Ediagbonya and Ovia North East Council Chairman Hon Lucy Omagbon assured the corps members that the host communities would support them with everything needed to make them succeed in their quest to leave Edo State better than they met it.
State NYSC coordinator, Mrs. Altine Japheth Akyam expressed gratitude to the state governor for his promise to resume construction work and speedy completion of the scheme’s permanent orientation camp in Okada.
