OGHEGHE – The Chairman of Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee (PCRC), Edo State, Chief Eduwu Ekhator Obasogie has commended the officers and men of the Nigeria Police and the State Security Service (SSS) over the maintenance of peace and order in the state, particularly in the Benin City metropolis.
Chief Obasogie, who gave the commendation yesterday while resolving the crisis in Ogheghe Community, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, urged the people to complement the effort of the security agents, whom he said had been of great assistance since the birth of the committee.
He told the Enogie and elders of the community to live above board and fashion out modalities on how the people can live together in peace, even as he warned that any mischief maker in the area would be handed over to security agent, without any fear or favour.
The Chairman, who was visibly angry over the wanton destruction of houses when he visited with his members on the sport assessment urged the people not to shield the arsonist as he would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
He noted that the prompt intervention of security-men and spirited individuals forstalled peace in the community and that elders should work in tandem with the rules and policies that would promote the development of their domain.
According to him, “the committee will no longer condole the over – indulgence of some elders in communities where they now allow the youths to be more powerful than the traditional relics on ground.”
Responding, the Enogie of Ogheghe, HRH H.I. Idusumwonba expressed appreciation to the chairman of PCRC and his team for coming to douse the already built up tension in the community.
He however, assured them of peace within the domain, even as he promised to bring the culprit to the corporate office of the committee along Gapiona Road in Benin City.
