Esit Eket (Akwa Ibom) – Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom has told Local Government Chairmen to stop complaining of inadequate funds.
Akpabio made the call during the inauguration of an ultra modern secretariat complex in Esit Eket Local Government Area of the State.
“I know the general complaint of local governments, they will always complain that there is no money in the local government. But see what one of our local governments – Esit Eket – has done with available resources.
“If Esit Eket council boss has put up this edifice, the other ones that have not been able to put up anything should try and do something for their people’’, he said.
Akpabio, represented by his wife, Unoma, called on other local government chairmen to emulate the chairman of Esit Eket to ensure effective delivery of the dividends of democracy.
He commended the chairman and members of the council for erecting the edifice.
“If you come out to serve your people and do your work very well, when you leave the office, you will go home a very fulfilled and happy man’’, Akpabio said.
Earlier, Chairman of the council, Mr. Ibanga Etang, said his administration would continue to support, sustain and replicate the vision of the Akwa Ibom Government.
Etang said the council named the edifice after Gov. Akpabio to immortalise him for the infrastructural renaissance that had made Esit Eket and Akwa Ibom hubs for investment and hospitality.
“In addition to the building, we have undertaken a number of people-oriented projects and programmes that will uplift the economic, social and health statuses of the people of Esit Eket’’, he said.
He thanked Akpabio for his unwavering support to the council, saying that the governor had made Esit Eket the envy of other local governments.
“Esit Eket has never had it so good. This explains our unwavering support and loyalty to your administration in the past eight years.
“You have made us the envy of others by taking us to the national limelight’’, he said.
