BENIN CITY- Governor Adams Oshiomhole has sent a letter of notification to the Edo State Hose of Assembly, informing it of the suspension of the Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council, Mr. Alhassan Mohammed for two months.
The Nigerian Observer reports that the governor had on May 26, 2015 sworn-in Al-hassan Mohammed as chairman.
The swearing-in of Alhassan Mohammed followed the death of the council Chairman, Mr. Hassan Kadiri on May 22, 2015.
In the Letter of notification sent to the house, Governor Adams Oshiomhole said preliminary report revealed that the newly sworn-in chairman masterminded the protest that erupted in the local government against the late council boss.
He  further said  that a panel of enquiry has been constituted to investigate the chairman’s involvement in the protest.
The governor said the outcome of the panel’s investigation would be communicated to the House for its consideration.
Also, the House passed a bill for a law to make provision for the establishment of Edo State College of Agricultural Technology, Agenebode.
Meanwhile, the House has also directed the Commissioner for  Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to pay the salaries of the Chairman, Secretary and Councillors of Orhionmwon Local Government Council for the period which they were suspended.
The directive was sequel to the consideration of the report of the House Committee on Local   Government on a petition titled: “Re-suspension of the Chairman, Secretary and Councillors  of Orhionmwon Local Government Council”, signed by the Chairman, Chief Roland Ibieorutomwen.
Considering the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu said the committee discovered that it was not stated in their letters of suspension that their salaries would not be paid.
The parliament subsequently adopted the recommendation of the report of the committee and the Speaker, Rt. Hon Uyi Igbe directed that copies of the resolution be forwarded  to the commissioner for Local and Chieftaincy Affairs for immediate action.
